My Whistler Opening Day

Alarm went off at 6:08 am (since i don't like waking up to normal times) Haha I actually woke up not tired and excited. Opening day, though not like other years ;where its a huge pow day and the whole mountain is opening with both gondolas going and lots of snow to enjoy. This year a little different weather conditions. I went outside, it was still dark. I then grabbed my bike and my board and tried to mount my bicycle. The wheel then slipped on the icy ground so I put my foot down. I rolled myself on the bike to the road where I figured it might be a bit easier. I tried for the second time, wheel slipped out. I then put down my foot with cat like instincts and my foot slipped out on the ice. I was a fallen mess of bike and snowboard. I picked myself up looked around, neighborhood was dead as usual, especially for 6:30 in the morning. Finally I got on my bike and didn't look back. Left hand steering, right hand holding my snowboard, boots already on with outerwear done up. The trek from my house to the mountain is completely uphill. Something I didn't think about was changing gears, they are on my right, same as the snowboard. So I biked very hard, sweating and panting out of breathing trying to make it up the long slope without stopped. If i stopped their would be no hope of continuing. I MADE IT, pulled into earls loop and locked up my bike, Darrah then appeared out of know-where and said "oh my you biked here, thats commitment" , I laughed and struggled with my frozen shut lock. Darrah and I then walked downstairs to Starbucks. Where the girls were all meeting up. I ordered oatmeal and a coffee and sat there, still sweating and out of breath. Taylor and Derek showed up a bit late due to a frozen windshield. We all then walked to the lift, where the line wasn't too too long. We butted in with some friends to create an eight. With a crew of eight you don't have to have silly singles jammed into your gondola. Taylor wasn't feeling well so she went home with Derek before it opened. Darrah went ahead with the boys she came with. So it was just me, Jarrod, Kevin, Mike, Adam. We did the damn thing for awhile ripping pow lines from top to bottom untouched. So totally unexpected and amazing!! It was a lot of fun, you couldn't cross tracks though or else you hit rocks or trees! I actually hit a tree and fell backwards five feet into a tree-well.. IT was so hard to get out of. Lucky I measeled myself out of there. People die in tree wells all the time around here. The conditions got worse as the day went on, the only snow we had got tracked and it was like riding through land mines (rocks). I rode with Geeves, Adam, Gill, Freddy and Mike for the rest of the day. It was wicked fun times, I went down around Noon with Gill. We went and got a coffee and reminisced. I biked home got changed biked back went to work. Work was hard, I was hungry and we had alot to do. So I biked home SO FAST and fried up some tomatoes and toasted some toast. I ate that then an apple with cheese.. then half an opa pita. Now I am on the couch and totally going to bed early tonight!!!!

good day overall. goodday.

oh but note to self: 145's are ALOT of work in snow especially for a tall girl.
